Shopping Indie

A lot of the products I will be blogging about are indie, mainly makeup and bath and body items.  As I was thinking about this, I began to wonder why people shop indie.  I am in a handful of Facebook groups dedicated to indie products, and I decided to ask them why they initially began shopping indie.  The most common responses were that the women love the idea of supporting small businesses, and appreciate the personalized customer service that is offered.  When you are shopping indie, you have the opportunity to get to know who you are purchasing from, and it makes the experience that much better.  Some of the other reasons include:
– you get more ‘bang for your buck’, with eyeshadows ranging from $4 to $7 for beautiful, vibrant colors
– it is easier to find vegan and cruelty-free products
– there are many themed collections available, something that is hard to find in mainstream makeup and bath and body

I agree with all of the above, but it isn’t the only reason I have switched over to so many indie products.  I have some autoimmune issues, and specifically a lot of issues with my skin.  I was looking for products with better ingredients, and less chemicals in general.  As I began using indie lotions, soaps, shampoos and conditioners, I saw a change in my skin.  I have had less reactions than in the past, and the cost is really comparable to what I would pay if I purchased products from a chain store.  Add to that the fact that I am supporting small businesses and I was sold.

So my question for you is have you shopped indie, and if so, what made you decide to give it a try?
